The group are restoring over 221 acres of grassland to create plant communities that are typical of the local area, including limestone grassland, neutral and damp pastures and species-rich hay meadows. We only use seed that has been locally harvested from existing diverse grasslands to ensure we maintain the local gene pool. We use a variety of techniques to harvest and broadcast the seed including brush harvesting and green hay.
The group are setting up a local wildflower seed exchange, which will control and monitor the use of local donor sites to ensure they are used sustainably. We are also looking at ways to propagate seed and grow on plug plants to plant up small areas. If you would like to get involved in growing wildflower plants please get in touch. We are looking for volunteers and schools to get involved in growing.
We need wildflower plug plants & tree species to:
Restore areas of grassland.
Create the next generation of ancient and veteran trees to help restore parkland.
Undertake hedgerow and woodland enhancement.
Generate nectar rich field margins to benefit bees and other pollinators.
