In June, our member, Alan Simpson and his family from Oldfields Farm kindly hosted a wide audience of farmers, conservation organisations and others as a demonstration of traditional farming in the Peak District, showcasing not only some of the positive work being done but also some of the challenges that are faced by small, family farms.
Alan and his family run a low input, organic beef and sheep farm on the edge of the White Peak. Their traditional way of farming and managing the land includes hay making, extensive grazing and stonewall maintenance. The day was a real success bringing people together, sharing local food and conversation.
